holter and event monitors

Why would I need a Holter or Event Monitor?
Every beating heart has a tempo or rhythm. If you have irregular heart beats, shortness of breath, unexplained chest pain, or simply haven't seen your doctor in a while you will likely need a Holter or Event Monitor to measure your heart.
Holter Monitors
A Holter monitor is a small machine that continously records your heart's rhythm. It is worn for 24 to 48 hours during normal activity.
Electrodes, small sticky sensors, are stuck onto your chest and are attached by wires to a small recording monitor. The Holtor monitor is carried around in a pocket or pouch worn around your neck or waist.
Keep a diary of what activities you do while wearing the monitor and how you feel. After 24-48 hours, return the monitor to your cardiologist's office. Your physician will inform you of the results of the monitor.
Event Monitors
Work the same way as a Holter monitor but for 30-days.
When wearing either device make sure the electrodes are firmly attached for an accurate recording.
